Top ten MCDI design moments of 2023
We can hardly believe it's been a year already! We are taking a moment to appreciate the beautiful projects we've been fortunate enough to work on in 2023. We're grateful to our clients for letting us into their homes and lives in such a personal way. While trends may come and go over the years, we believe that good design is timeless. Our approach focuses on function, personal aesthetics, and the little details that make a big impact. Without further ado, here are our favorite MCDI design moments of the year.
1.
CHECKERED BACKSPLASH
Our clients wanted a more functional kitchen and dining space with a bright, charming aesthetic. The Fireclay subway tile we used for this checkered pattern in the prep sink area sets just the right tone.
2.
WALNUT CABINETRY
Nothing compares to the richness of walnut. It provided the contrast and warmth needed in our spa-inspired bathroom to offset the adjacent marble shower room.

ROMAN CLAY
This stunning fireplace was the design focal point of our Beeler Park Basement project. The Portola Paints Roman clay is a plaster finish that is perfect for creating a moodier, darker vibe in a light field space.
4.
ARCHED DETAILS
Arches create transitions in open floor plans, provide architectural interest, and soften modern lines. We added them to a few of our projects this year, and we have more planned for the coming year.
5.
CLAY PLASTER
Clay plaster is one of our favorite materials to specify in our projects. It instantly adds character, warmth, and movement to any space. The quartz infused in the clay plaster walls of this stunning primary bedroom remodel was sourced in Colorado and adds a subtle luminescence.

Zellige TIle
Zellige tile is a beautiful, timeless trend that we will continue to see in 2024. These handmade beauties by Cle Tile add spa-like character and depth to our Beeler Park bathroom.
7.
Bold Color
We love it when our clients take chances because it always pays off! This bold paint color in our client’s new mudroom is set off by cane webbing custom cabinets and grounded by zellige charcoal cross and star tilework.
8.
Whimsical Chandelier
This breakfast nook is simultaneously warm and inviting, modern and functional, thanks, in large part, to the whimsical chandelier that we absolutely adore. Its organic petal shape and rattan weave creates a sophisticated yet playful atmosphere. The curio cabinet is also worth mentioning, with its lovely arched silhouette and practical storage.

The Ultimate Before and After
Streamlined aesthetics, clean lines, and geometric interest transformed this dark and outdated condo into a contemporary high-rise oasis. It was the most dramatic MCDI design transformation of 2023.
10.
Magic Door Reveal
By far, the biggest viral moment of the year goes to our magic door. Functional design is a pillar of MCDI’s mission, and hidden storage space behind a wine rack and cabinet is a prime example.
There were so many great moments in 2023; it was hard to choose just ten! We can’t wait to see what 2024 has in store for our clients.
